The Meat and Spirit Plan is an abstract novel brilliantly written by Selah Saterstrom, author of The Pink Institution. The nameless main character gives her story in edgy snapshots, which catches you up in the rhythm of an often disturbing and bumpy ride. The style reminds one of the free flowing way our deepest thoughts run when residing somewhere between wakefulness and sleep.
The Meat and Spirit Plan shows one girl's entry into womanhood through a series of damaging relationships and her eventual reliance on drugs. The main character struggles to surface in this fiercely written story, and whether you've lived similar experiences or not, you'll find yourself identifying with her over and over again.
Coffee House Press went to great lengths to produce a book that has a look and feel equal to the one-of-a-kind writing style of Saterstrom, and I have one of these books to give away. There are three ways to win. Leave a comment telling me what intrigues you about this book, subscribe to carp(e) libris in the left-hand column of this page, or do both to double your chances. Once you're subscribed, you're automatically entered into all the book giveaways here at carp(e) libris. One winner will be chosen at random on Monday, January 14th 2007, at noon EST.

I added it - thanks for the tip, qtpies! Always looking for more places. Without blogs like yours, giveaways would be much more difficult! I don't know how you keep up with it all, so thanks!!!
The mindset of the main character intrigues me. I want to read about how she ticks.
I'd love to read this!

I love coming of age novels!
i'd like to read it- please enter me!
What intrigues me is kind of embarassing...basically when I was younger and in art scool this was the type of book I would read all the time...free flowing/abstract thought patterns... Now i feel like a boring new mother who only knows how to read Parenting magazine or whatever.... so I need this to prove to myself I am still the artist I one was :)
Hello! I think following the character's life of ups and downs intrigues me. Also, to see how she turns out.....Thanks,Cindi

What really intrigues me is how you find all these off-the-wall new books, Diane! But don't enter me to win, because I'm a bookseller, after all, and those who aren't should have the chance.
one girl's entry into womanhood - sounds good
tiramisu392@yahoo.com
Being a woman myself, and having struggled when I was a young girl with various things - I think it sounds like a storyline that I'd relate to. Count me in - and I already subscribe.
Count me in as well - this book interests me as a woman and also since I work with young women who are often struggling themselves..
oops, should have left my email...sanna1999@verizon.net
i'm intrigued by the stream-of-consciousness writing style.
Good Job! :)
